San
Salvador was the first landfall site of
Christopher Columbus on his initial voyage of discovery
of the Americas - 1492. Four monuments mark the location
that Columbus came ashore. Columbus named the island
San Salvador or "Holy Saviour," per his
journal, "The beauty of these islands surpasses
that of any other and as much as the day surpasses
the night in splendour."
The island was the headquarters of the George Watling
and carried his name (Watling Island) until 1925,
reflecting his great influence.The
last "outer island" has not changed in centuries.
The island has miles of pristine beaches, aqua blue
seas and a reef that is teaming with sea life.

The
island of San Salvador is 12 miles long and 6 miles
wide. The main road, Queen's Highway (most every island
main road is so-named) is steps away from; the shoreline,
beaches, touquoise water, cays and reefs.
San
Salvador has varying terrain; rocky shoreline, knolls,
cliffs, caverns and more. Breath taking views of the
ocean is what we come to expect from Bahamian Out
Islands. Unlike many islands, tropical plants and
fruit trees are grown on the island.
