Air Charter Bahamas is happy to announce the advent of one-way pricing from South Florida to Great Harbour, Berry Island, Bahamas. On Demand, ONE-WAY pricing from Opa Locka to Great Harbour is $ 1,400.00 (not including US or Bahamian Fees). We will be catagorizing customer's requests and posting them on a monthly planner/calendar. Our intent is to have customers use "BOTH LEGS" of the flight, ie; Have one set of customers travel out to Great Harbour for $ 750.00 and have a second set of customers return to South Florida on the "backhaul" of the flight. We will be programming this page to allow customers to activate an account, request certain dates of travel and lock in their price. Unfortunately, this business model does NOT accommodate changes in itinerary. If the itinerary is changed, a 100% cancellation fee will be applied. We will honor the "other" passengers one-way pricing. We will be utilizing our Piper Navajo Chieftain (recently overhauled engines and propellers (February 2006)) Please stay posted to this site and/or call us @ 1.866.FLY.ISLANDS for updates. We look forward to flying you to the Beautiful Island of Great Harbour, Berry Island. |

ARRIVAL
Great Harbour's airport is one of the "better" airstrips in the Bahamas. Runway 13-31 is approximately 5,000 foot long an plenty wide for
Aztecs and Chieftains. Flight time from South Florida is approximately 1 hour. Make sure to bring your passport (required by
2006) to expidite clearing customs and on your way to the Beach House for breakfeast or lunch (we recommend Angie's Special). Ask her if
Hector or Roger
or Daniel caught any fish that day to have the freshest fish in Great Harbour
or the rest of the Bahamas.

BOATING
In Great Harbour, boats are available through Elorn at Happy People, at the marina.
If you decide to venture out on the high seas (actually, the south-side of the island is relatively calm and excellent for bone fishing) make
sure to bring along either an onboard GPS with navigation charts or the most recent paper version. Your ENTIRE vacation can be ruined in an
instant by hitting the many submerged rock formations. Once your boating, you'll need to decide - Marlin or Bone Fish today :)
Actually, deep dropping for Mystic Grouper is most appetizing to some (not mentioned here). You'll surely come back with a dinner portion of
Snapper if you decide to bottom fish. Make sure to visit the enigmatic Blue Hole (not found anywhere near the continental US) and visit Flo's
and the Ambergris Cays.
FISHING!
Great Harbour is
an excellent spot for bottom fishing (Snapper, Grouper, etc. "Meat
Fishing" or Super-market fishing is most popular among the
American inhabitants. Deep dropping over 1,200 feet within a couple of minutes
and a couple of minutes later "Fish On" is the call of the day.
When offered a
challenge (to give the fish a chance) many brave the shark infested waters (only
when there's blood in the water) and utilize
the Hawaiian Sling. Spearguns are illegal (don't be caught with one onboard).
Florida Cray Fish or commonly know as the Spiny Lobsters as
abundant on the outer reefs. During the season, the Lobster divers pretty much
empty the inside reefs.
On
the South side of Great Harbour, the flats fishing is world class. West of the
Ambergris Cay, Percy Darville (the local fishing guide) will
make sure you're experience is one not to forget. No problem having the fish
cleaned, the Bahamians are more than welcomed to filet/steak
the fish (not the bone fish) in exchange for the heads (for Fish Soup) and a
greenback or two.
Roger and Daniel with a monster from the deep (Grouper
@ 100lbs)
The proceeds of the catch went to the islanders!
Food Stuffs
We recommend you
bring in your groceries to Great Harbour. If you decide to charter the Navajo,
there is plenty of capacity for your
Groceries. You'll be suprised to find several outlets to purchase groceries
on Great Harbour. The selection of food-stuffs is limited (as you
would expect) but if in a Jam (no pun here), they'll have a pretty good substitute
for what you're looking for. Besides, we recommend you
head to the Beach Club for your food. If you get a chance to meet Barbara, ask
her for a taste of her latest masterpiece - ummm, it's good.
Unfortunately, Ice is a rare commodity on the island. It can be purchased from
the Dock Master @ the Marina.
LIQUOR
Great Harbour has
several small liquor stores - Airport / Marina / Village. The spirits are pricier
than in the US (reason being is that there is a
duty on Liquor and a double duty on beer).
FUEL
Great Harbour has a relatively large marina (approximately 50 slips)
Pricing: 90 cents/ foot/ night
Electricity: $15/day (under 60 feet)
Washdown: $10/day
Boat/Auto Fuel (gasoline): $4.00/gallon (as of June 2005)
Diesel Fuel: $3.00/gallon
There have been
times when boaters are left without fuel and required to leave the vessel behind.
Make sure to get in touch with "Blue"
242.367.8113, the Manager to determine whether there is sufficient
fuel expected during your visit.
There is no Aviation fuel (AVGAS or JETA) on the island. Nassau (54 miles away)
would be the closest spot to fuel up the aircraft.
ELECTRICITY is VERY EXPENSIVE on the island. If you're not planning
on being in the villa/room for the day, do yourself a favor and turn off the
lights and airconditioning.
HISTORY
In
the 1800's King William IV of England decided to make Great Stirrup Cay the
home for freed slaves.
The settlement Williamstown was born and failed within the next few years. Like
many of the other outer
islands, the soil proved to be unuseable for harvesting crops. The island remained
virtually dormant until
the 60's, when Douglas Fairbanks and other elites decided to make Great Harbour
Cay their tropical island
paradise. The Great Harbour Cay Club was formed and the 9 hole golf course soon
followed. Marinas were
constructed, Villas developed and Starlites began to grace the beautiful 8 mile
streach of beaches.
Unfortunately, the Great Harbour Cay Club met it's demise and was eventually
ransacked in the mid
70's.
LODGING
Great Harbour boasts
ONE hotel on the 8 miles of paradise. The hotel is inhabited by local Bahamians
and those that were not able to make it in
to the seaside villas or townhouses. The Beach Villas are priced based on the
season and demand (it's the Bahamas). Pricing is as low as
$100/day running upwards of $200/day for the larger villas. Single family homes
are also available for rent. We will be happy to put you in touch
with the local realtor if you're interested in booking a night's stay.

ACTIVITIES
Great Harbour is a tranquil little island. If you're boat is in the shop, make sure to bring along a library of books and your sandals. Great
Harbour has excellent fishing no more than a mile offshore (drops to over 1,000ft). There's really not much to do on the island - this is the
reason we visit. Your stroll along the beach will most likely be without seeing a single soul.
Diving
and Snorkeling sites are northeast of Great Harbour Cay. Great Harbour Marina
(242.367.8005)
offers
daily dive excursions. Happy Peoples Gift Shop & Rentals at Great Harbour
Marina, rents snorkel
gear.
Bone
Fishing & Sport Fishing - Percy Darville charges $215/315 <half/full>
including boat charter for
bonefishing, and $350/500 half/full for deep-sea fishing.
Golf
- There's a 9 hole golf course a half mile southeast of the marina. the clubhouse
closed a few years
ago, although Happy People's rents clubs for US$15/day.
ACCOMMODATIONS
We will have villas available for rent, please let us know that you're interested when booking your private air charter flight to Great Harbour.
DINING
The
Warf - serves U.S. style and Bahamian cusine; Salads, soups, burgers and
a wide dinner menu
including seafood from $10.

We highly recommend
The Beach Club - across the street from the Airport. If it's breakfeast your
angling for, the eggs, ham, grits, toast are all
excellent. Lunch? the cheeseburger is the staple. If eating light, the club
sandwich hits the spot. And if Hector/Roger or Daniel have been fishin',
make sure to have the catch of the day. They now offer take-out (when your in
a hurry?) and are open @ night (not recommended to be outside
after dusk - the critters can eat you alive).

NIGHTLIFE
The bar @ the Wharf is frequented by folks from Bullok's Harbour. Many
stories are shared over a bottle of
Bahamian Rum.
Tamboo
Dinner Club is open on Wednesday and Saturday. There you'll find; a bar,
library, backgammon,
Big Screen TV/VCR
Watergate
@ Bullock's Harbour, is a favorite watering hole for the locals.
Whitewater Restaurant provides the patrons a satelite TV for those interested
in foreign sporting activities
and other programming.
Robert's Lounge and Disco is not to be left out.
